How the guideline series are built

Each guideline series on this site is a synthesis, not a summary of a single document. The relevant professional-society guidelines for a topic are read together and their recommendations integrated into one reference, and every substantive statement carries a numbered, DOI-linked citation back to its source. Long syntheses are split into sequential part pages so each part loads quickly and is individually citable. Every page carries a date (first published) and a lastmod (last substantive revision) in its metadata; when a source society issues a new edition, the affected series is revised and its lastmod advances. Each series is reviewed by a clinician before it publishes. The nephrology and dialysis series are forthcoming and will be listed on this page and on the department hub as they publish.

Frequently asked questions

What is in the nephrology and dialysis guidelines index?
The professional-society guidelines that govern nephrology and dialysis practice: KDIGO guidelines on CKD evaluation and management, acute kidney injury, glomerular diseases, blood pressure in CKD, diabetes in CKD, anemia in CKD, CKD-MBD, ADPKD, and hepatitis C in CKD, and KDOQI guidelines on hemodialysis vascular access, nutrition in CKD, and hemodialysis adequacy. Each entry names the publisher and current edition and links to the source.
How will the nephrology guideline series be built?
In the same format as the site’s other departments: the relevant society guidelines for a topic are read together and integrated into one reference, every substantive statement carries a numbered DOI-linked citation, long syntheses are split into sequential part pages, each page carries a published date and a lastmod date, and each series is reviewed by a clinician before it publishes. The nephrology and dialysis series are forthcoming.
Which edition of the KDIGO AKI guideline applies?
The 2012 KDIGO AKI guideline remains the current published edition. A draft KDIGO 2026 guideline for acute kidney injury and acute kidney disease was released for public review in March 2026. The index will be updated when the final guideline is published.
